R2-TUNED ZIPP wheelset 28" 454 NSW Carbon Clincher | Tubeless | Center Lock | 12x100 mm | 12x142 mm thru axle + CERAMICSPEED bearings
Make the super-fast Zipp NSW wheels even faster and more durable? Our r2-Tuned version with Ceramicspeed bearings makes it possible. The balls from the Danish company are 15% harder than those of the competition and can absorb considerably more force. They also have an incredibly smooth surface, reducing rolling resistance to a minimum. All these improvements have increased the service life by a factor of 6. Compared to the already high-quality standard bearings from CeramicSpeed, a wafer-thin protective layer is applied to the bearing rings in the "coated" version. This makes the latter even harder, extends their life cycle by a further 60% and reduces rolling resistance even further.
The 454 NSW is the ultimate wheelset for road racing and fast rides for the performance-oriented rider. With its aerodynamic efficiency, crosswind stability and low weight, it is ideally suited to all conditions and track profiles.
Despite the very large inner rim width of 23 millimetres, the 454 NSW has been optimized for 25 millimetre wide tubeless tires. The large inner width not only ensures lower rolling resistance, it also allows the tire to be run with lower air pressures to reduce vibration losses and increase comfort. The hookless design creates an almost seamless transition between tire and rim flanks and ensures extremely low air resistance. The elimination of the hooks also makes the rim flanges more robust in the event of punctures and contributes to the significant weight saving compared to the previous versions. In combination with further optimizations in the structure of the carbon layers, the weight of the wheelset has been reduced to 1358 grams. This makes the 454 NSW wheels extremely agile and light-footed. In a field test commissioned by Zipp, the new 454 NSW was able to prove its strengths. Compared to the previous version, the rider with a system weight of 85 kg (including wheel) needed 10 watts less pedal power to maintain a speed of 40 km/h.
Total System Efficiency (TSE)
The 454 NSW wheels were developed under the TSE approach. The development goal was to find the best possible wheel design to overcome the speed barriers that exist under realistic riding conditions. In addition to wind resistance, gravity and rolling resistance, these also include vibration losses in poor road conditions.
Zipp Cognition hubs
The Cognition V2 hub set, developed in Germany, impresses with its unique freewheel system. The system is similar to a toothed disk freewheel, but thanks to the special arrangement of the toothed disks (axial clutch), it generates only half as much frictional resistance when rolling as a conventional ratchet system. The second version of the hubs has an improved sealing system and the freewheel mechanism responds even faster.
Sawtooth design
Introduced with the Zipp 858 NSW, the 454 also received the aerodynamically extremely efficient sawtooth profile, which was modeled on the fin ends of the humpback whale and allows the rim height to vary between 53 and 58 millimeters. In combination with the newly designed hexagonal ABLC dimples (indentations on the outer sides of the rim), the design ensures very high crosswind stability, especially at larger angles of attack.
ImPress graphics
Zipp lettering is printed directly onto the rim using ImPress graphics technology. This allows the recessed structures on the rims to develop their full effect.
Zipp | Ceramicspeed Lifetime Warranty
Zipp and Ceramicspeed grant you a lifetime warranty on your Zipp wheel with Ceramicspeed coated bearings when used properly. The warranty also covers racing use and damage caused by riding errors, as long as the wheel has been used for its intended purpose. The warranty is only valid for the original purchaser and proof of purchase is mandatory!
NOTE: Due to the hookless profile, the Zipp 454 NSW wheels are only suitable for use with ETRTO-compliant tubeless tires. However, the corresponding tubeless tires can be ridden on the wheels with a tube without any problems. You can find an overview of all compatible tires for your Zipp hookless wheel here.
